konishiki kids foundation raised $70,000 for seven Leeward Coast Elementary Schools LEEWARD COAST, HAWAII – Want to make a difference in your community?
Well-known Sumo Wrestler, KONISHIKI (aka Saleva’a Atisanoe), with his non-profit foundation, and with some help from private donors raised $70,000 for seven Leeward Coast Elementary Schools. The schools that he is awarding this monetary donation to have been working with his foundation for the past 11 years in many different activities to help promote education in the Leeward Community. Activities have included all expense paid trips to Japan for 35 kids from each these schools, participation in the Pan Pacific Festival in June, and some local community activities.

i'm just a little seedKONISHIKI states that the “State of Hawaii Recognition Award only makes the kids in the Leeward Community look up to me as a role model and look toward his foundation for guidance and help when they are lost. Being that the Leeward Coast is always looked upon negatively, one of our goals as a foundation is to change that image and give our youths a fair chance in the Hawaii’s education and working society. This award makes those youths feel like they can accomplish a lot if they have a dream to go for, have a balance life which includes Family and Friends, and learn to value what they already have. That is the motto I live by everyday and I have succeed in what I do.”

This year because KONSIHIKI wanted to accomplish some personal goals and has been in Hawaii more than Japan, he felt that he still wanted to do something to give back to the Leeward kids and met with the principals of the seven elementary schools. The foundation believes that the seven elementary schools deserve everything they need to keep the young ones dreams alive. So we are awarding each of them with a $10,000 check to be used for books, supplies or computers. The seven elementary schools that are involved with the KONSIHIKI Kids Foundation are: Makaha Elementary, Leihoku Elementary, Nanakuli Elementary, Nanaikapono Elementary, Waianae Elementary, Maile Elementary, and Kamaile Pulic Charter School.

principlesKONISHIKI has always believed that he wanted to make an impressionable impact on the kids in his community at an age that they could change their lives. We have seen this with many of our Konishiki Kids alumni that have graduated and are making a difference in their own lives as well as others. The foundation truly believes that everyone should be given a chance to have a dream and be able to pursue it. Every kid that has been touched by KONISHIKI and his foundation now has his or her dream to make into a reality.
